PROBATIONARY MEMBERS

As of January 1, 2007 International started a new program to do away with permit workers.  The new program is Probationary membership.  Instead of having permit workers the Union will have Probationary members.  The dues will be apprentice rate of $33.00 per month instead of $5.00 a week.  The Probationary member will be evaluated every six months, and within a year the Probationary member will either be put in the apprenticeship, organized, or terminated.  This is a way of giving  men and women, who have prior experience doing iron work, the union advantage.  As a member of the Union you can earn higher wages than a non-union worker.  In most occupations union workers earn 34% more than non-union workers.  This would give you the same great health care benefits, retirement, short term disability benefits, and annuity.  All of these benefits are listed on our home page on the wage and fringe breakdown.  This doesn't even begin to mention that you will be working under a collective bargaining agreement that ensure equal pay and fair treatment.  For more information on Probationary Membership contact the Union Hall.
